Some wrong answers here already. First one is correct. The second isn't; brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Like bronze is an alloy of copper and tin.
The word alloy comes from french and means according to law, because making alloys of gold and silver could be used to cheat people, by putting more silver than gold into it. So they made laws to protect the public from cheating goldsmiths.
