Some positions require you have a 4 year degree in science while others only require a GED or High School graduation. Generally, if you want to work in a crime laboratory as a Criminalist you will need at least a 4 year degree in science (such as Biology or Chemistry). If you want to be a Crime Scene Technician you usually need less formal education. Some agencies require you be a sworn police officer before becoming a Crime Scene Investigator but the present trend is toward "civilianizing" this unit - hiring and training non-police personnel. Beyond that, you should pursue a college degree that is suitable for becoming a police officer. Law enforcement and criminal justice are examples of majors that would be helpful here.

A two-year degree will help you become a technician...I would go for the Bachelor's. You may also want to talk with an advisor at school or local Police Department to see what the requirements are in your area to become a CSI. I think it would help you more with the Bachelor's but some communities (generally rural areas) only require a 2 year degree.

Probably not. Go for the 4-yr degree in Criminal Justice. Crime Scene Investigators must be meticulous and knowledgeable. It will be interesting. Go for it!
