The pain is mostly located on the back side of the knee. I started to feel pain when I heard a pop of some sort. It mostly hurts when I walk.

this might be due to your hamstrings not being very flexible. You might want to try stretching a bit and only stretch when your muscles are warm (either after walking, or sit in a warm bath tub for a good 15-20 minutes before stretching). See if that doesn't alleviate some of your pain.

It could be a sprain. I had a sprained knee and it hurt like crazy! Get it checked out.
