I'm guessing it would be much longer. Otherwise smokers would be fine if they could just go without cigarettes for 28 days.
It actually takes a minimum of 21 days to begin a new habit. Some people say to add in another week just to help cover the days during those 21 days that you may not have practised your new habit.

just tom,....do you really think left handedness is a habit, it is a dominant trait in that person, you can be taught to use your right hand but it was instilled in you at birth, also nipple sucking( actually called suckling/or rooting reflex) is by no means a habit it is a reflex, and by the way if it was a habit at what time did the newborn baby began to develop the habit (babies root as soon as they are born)...anyway it takes at least a month before you can considered yourself on the way to a new habit or break an old one

It always depends!
It can't be dead-lined!
Some habits never die (left-handedness) & some die at birth or soon (.nipple sucking)
Some habits, people don't want to give up: Running behind gals / guys! Philandering & flirting!
Lenth doesn't matter. End-results matter most!
It is common for GOOD & BAD & UG
