People that can spell can easily recognize misspellings from other people. I believe that it does not make someone any "less smart" if they cannot spell. My husband is a horrible speller, but he is very intelligent. He worked as a Maintenance Tech for years and he is soon to be finished with his Associate Degree in Nursing. When he writes blogs, notes, etc., I can see why people would think he is of lesser intelligence because he has many misspellings of more of the simpler words. He had dyslexia and this made it extremely difficult for him to learn those initial words that are taught in elementary school. People are soon to judge people given the only information they receive (maybe a blog, or sometimes by their appearance). I am sure you are a smart guy who has a lot to offer. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. If someone tells you otherwise, tell them to go skrew (misspelled on purpose) themselves!!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I sometimes get frustrated by people who post questions or answers without bothering to use the spell-check tool that is built into the system.

Look at it this way. If people want to communicate with others, it's generally polite to take the time to be coherent. Some people consider it disrespectful that some posters don't even bother to take the time to frame their question well, or to click "check spelling". It's not the occasional typo -- we all do that. It's the posts that some people make that are so incoherent we can't follow them.

People don't need to be a good speller if they don't intend to use written communication. But if they want to communicate with others using written form, it's respectful to put the effort into at least trying to follow the rules of grammar and spelling. Because if people don't even try, why should others put any effort into communicating with them?

Just something to consider.

I get annoyed when people abbreviate when they don’t need to as it takes me about half an hour to work out what it says. I understand if it is a text message as it is cheaper but on the computer there is no need for it as all the letters are there.... I think it is amazing that you can wire a house something that i wish i could do... but i have been blessed with spelling, Good spelling is often considered, by naive people, to do with intelligence and for some people it is not about this at all, i have a friend who finds it really hard to spell and often gets really confused especially if she knows that people will be looking at it, i find that reassuring her that as long as people can understand what you are talking about spelling for those that find it hard is not important.... What really gets on my nerves is when people just can’t be bothered and couldn’t really care less....

There is a built-in spell check on this website, so there is no excuse for someone not being able to spell correctly on here. If they consistently spell words incorrectly, I look down on them as being unable to comprehend the idea of a spell checker.

I just wish that there was a grammar check on this site. There are some posts that can barely be deciphered due to the bad grammar.

I think people think less of you because most computers have spell check. You dont have to have mispelled words, and if you know that spelling or grammar isn't your strong point then you should use the tools that you have. If you choose not to, you should not be offended if someone corrects you. Obviously you need to spell if you are on the internet posting information for everyone to see.

Because people who cannot spell on Yahoo! Answers are usually ignorant, but it seems that you are an execption to the rule, unfortunately, people who can't spell are stereotyped as being stupid. Hope that answers it.

It makes those who are able to spell properly and use correct grammar feel superior. It matters not to them whether they are right about it or not, just how it makes them feel.
I don't care how you spell, as long as you get your thought across.

It allows them to feel better about themselves. Ironically enough, these same people who complain about other's poor grammar often use poor grammar themselves. It's funny when you point that fact out to those type of people. Those same people complain about the person who pointed the fact out to them. :)

It's a vicious cycle that only ends with the original complainer whining about being called on their bad grammar. The lesson for those of you that whine about bad grammar, you had better use proper grammar yourself while you are whining.
