All three ladies give three very different performances and renditions of the masterpiece, but I've got to say, ELLA - just one word sister, SOUL!

Actually my favorite version is by Fantasia on American Idol. That was amazing!
Of these I'll take Janis Joplin. I used to have the record Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Co.that its from.
George Benson also has a nice but very upbeat version on one of his first albums.

I personally prefer the original, no-lyrics, Gershwin version. It's simple and beautiful. I don't need the lyrics to understand the meaning.
