It's like on Who's Line Is It? - the points don't matter.

Actually, the more points you have the higher your level. The higher your level, the more you can participate on the forum. The "special prizes" are listed on the second chart here:

Those featured users shown on the top of the homepage are all level 5's (5,000+ points). That's the 'prize' for level 5. Dunno what the 'prizes' are for levels 6 and 7 yet.

It's just meant to show how ACTIVE of a member you are. The more you participate by answering questions or voting etc, the more points you get. It really serves no other purpose other than letting people know that you are an active participant. Personally, I'm not in it for the points.....I just answer questions if I think I can help someone with their question. For all I care my points could read zero. I do like finding out though if the person I provided an answer to, found my answer helpful. I'm rambling......so, to answer your question directly....no....no real purpose.

No it's just like a t.v commercial. Yahoo is making money on it.
See it goes like this. We all like this site, we come here to ask questions , get answers and others answer questions. Ok so the advertisers see that all these people come to this site and they want to advertise their wares on Yahoo. They pay Yahoo $$ to do this. Even if you have a pop up blocker - there are people sitting in nice air conditioned offices, getting paid to send out these ads whether or not you buy something. At sometime, someone WILL buy something and that makes it worth it to the advertisers. WE in turn get points - That's it- Points!

WTF is the Muslim obsession with thinking that when you die you get all these virgins, what a twisted concept for a religion........Is that all the value you put on your women.
A "prize" when you die, like 27 virgins? I feel sorry for your Gf/wife
The real gift of points is to be able to diss dumba sses like yourself without having to see this
We're sorry, but you have reached the daily alloted limit of answers

the only 'prize' u get is the satisfaction of knowing that u might've helped someone. other than that, there's no point at all. i find this site truly addictive and the point system only encourages me. oh yeah, it's also an ego booster when ur answer gets chosen as best answer

What would you want 27 virgins for? Experienced ppl are much better.

And I think it's crap you lose points for asking a question.

You just get to higher and higher levels, and, if you want to ask more questions, the more points you have, the less it hurts.. :)
If you're still not sure, go watch Who's Line Is It, Anyway, where everything's made up, and the points don't matter.

Seems more just to keep people interested. The only thing I've seen so far is that it increases the limit of answers you can have in a day..
