I think McKee will be missed, especially for his character, leadership and shot-blocking, but I really think the Sabres won't be too hurt by his departure. McKee is not the fastest or smoothest skater and in terms of skill I believe Tallinder, Lydman, Numminen, Kalinin and Campbell are all better than him. More importantly, GM Darcy Regier essentially upgraded the position when he signed free agent Jaroslav Spacek from Edmonton. Spacek is definitely a more skilled player than McKee and will fit in nicely with the Sabres' fluid skating and attacking style of play.

I also really think young Nathan Paetsch will shine when given the chance to stick with the big club this season. He too is an exceptional skater with tremendous upside, particularly on offense. That said, we still need to bring in at least one more veteran defensemen to compensate not only for McKee's departure but to prevent nightmarish depth chart issues like the ones we faced in the playoffs when we lost 4 of our top 5 blueliners. Trust me, we're A-OK without McKee. But that said, I do wish him well in St. Louis.

Mckee will be missed alot but for alot of reasons other then skill. His heart, leadership and they way he sacrifices his body will all be missed. However Spacek is a very good defensemen and probably more skilled then Mckee. The Sabres will still have a very solid defense with Tallinder and Lydman leading the way. Hopefully they can play like hey did in the playoffs because they were unbelievable. I hope St. Louis works out for him though he deserves it. GO SABRES
