Okay, you have a laptop that is USB, and a parallel printer. The printer must be older. Assuming you don't want to buy another newer printher, and you have the correct driver for that older printer (it might be too old and not have any drivers for WinXP), you have one option. You need a USB to Parallel adapter. There are several on the market; just search Yahoo! with this prase "usb to parallel printer adapter."

But, if I were you, I'd get a whole new printer. They all have USB connections now, and you'll be getting a higher performance device with the latest features too! You might want to get an All-in-one thing so you can scan also.

It's a good reason to upgrade.

Make sure that this is the usb port...even ethernet ports are rectangular....First Install the driver cd that u r provided with ur printer hardware(it can also b downloaded from the respective website---if it is a branded one)..and that u can directly give print command from the window...u will also be alerted about the errors on connection and cartridge faults once u install the driver

Laptop's must have USB ports as default. If your printer has, such rectangular plug then that's working only through USB connection with a cable. SO, simply connect the printer to the laptop with the printer's USB cable, which was provided to you when you bought it(the printer).
It must work.

However it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new cheap printer with a USB port.

sure, that's precisely the form you connect a printer to a computer. computer doesnot have a printer port. So, purely connect the cable with one yet another end and start up a printer. sometimes, you have gotten to place in the printers driving force with the aid of your CD. After the utility is put in you're stable to flow.!
