...stretched from the northernmost part of Canada to the southernmost part of Mexico in mid-January, at what point do people stop wearing parkas and at what point do people start wearing swimwear? And why not one or two people further north/south?

If there was going to be a severe line of demarcation ie, you had to swap over from one type of clothes to another, without a "transition zone". It would have to be around El Paso, Texas. I'm assuming we can drink water and remain hydrated. Any further north of that and we'd run the risk of standing around freezing to death. Of course...they are going to be a stretch of people sweating their cajones off...but if they can remain hydrated they'll be ok. Hot..but ok. Even that far south..we'd run the risk of subzero temps..but not to bad.
So...my answer would be El Paso, TX

Almost an original. There is no person that's the first. There will be a blend of parka's and even swimwear. It is a matter of personal experience of what's to cold or to hot to waer this or that.

Now that's silly! We have Hot Blooded people, and we have people with poor circulation, so there wouldn't be a definate point! Have you ever seen the folks in Colorado? Long sleeves, a coat, Shorts with socks & sandals! In January!

It depends on the class of people and the location of the specific class of people employed to form this human chain. I guess there are too many variables in the question which have been left unattended ... and hence there is no specific answer.
