For me it was Germany's defeat in the 119th minute. I couldn't sleep for weeks after that.

To be that close to going to the final, and then receive a shock like that is absolutely awful. I cried like the German players did that night. I also feel for France, because they lost in a penalty shootout in the final, especially Trezeguet, I feel really sad for him. He's a great player who just had bad luck at the end.

Yes, Italy's loss in 2002 was hard to take, with Korea's golden goal in the 117th minute.

Another heartbreaking loss: England's loss to Portugal. Although we didn't play well in the tournament, we did play well against Portugal, to lose in the shootout like that was bitter.

I was supporting Germany also. Yes indeed that was the single most heartbreaking loss in this year's world cup. What was even more heart wrenching was the fact that Italy somehow managed to score two goals, not one, but TWO goals on them. I almost cried.

Firstly I must say that Italy played well in the final, they defended exceptionally but I must admit France's defeat was heartbreaking. They didn't start off so well in the tournament but progressively improved and surprisingly made it to the final. I wanted them to win especially as it was Zidane's last game. The headbutt was also heartbreaking because it wasn't the beat way to end such an illustrious career. To see the french crying was also sad. I didn't expect much from my national team but I must say as a trinidadian, the match between Trinidad and Tobago and England was heartbreaking. It was our first time in the world cup and we were able to draw with sweden and then keep england goalless for 83mins! I know they're a lot of German fans out there but i was really upset when they beat Argentina!

Many of the losses broke my heart like when Argentina lost against Germany in penalty shoot outs.I couldn't help but cry when I saw Cambiasso crying.Another heartbreaking loss was when Spain lost to France.Of course I was also hurt when Portugal lost to France and yes I think Portugal played way better France won because of a penalty >:(

That match Germany vs. Italy was actually my favourite, since it was probably the most exciting match from the entire World Cup... lots of close calls for both teams. I was also glad that Italy won *last-minute*... the match made World Cup history!
Portugal's loss to France was depressing for me. I doubt France would have won without the penalty kick... then again, they seemed to be very lucky in this tournament. The Portuguese team really looked like they had the right measure of team spirit and talent to win.

Nigeria vs Italy round of sixteen match -- USA 94' Nigeria scored in the 30th minute and hold the lead until 89' minute when baggio equalized for the Europeans and in extra time, they were awarded a penalty which I think was cheating- the match ended 2-1 to Italy
Nigeria U-20s versus Argentina U 20s the game was tied until Argentina were awarded a penalty which Messi scored- and it was cheating too.

As a Habs fan the biggest heartbreak I felt changed into in 1993 and wasn't even with my crew!: could 29 - l. a. 5 Toronto 4 (Kings win sequence 4-3) Montreal already had a berth contained in the Stanley Cup Finals beating the Islanders in 5 video games and we were all preserving our breath for a Habs-Leafs very last, in easy words to have Gretzky look like the Wayne of previous and score a hat trick to take the Kings to their first ever Stanley Cup very last. to imagine of what could were.

ENGLAND's exit at the hands of PORTUGAL during the 2004 European Championship quarter-final. ENGLAND were heading for the semi-final when Michael Owen give his team a 1-0 lead as early as the 3rd minute.
but PORTUGAL's subsitute, Helder Postiga, who had a miserable season with Tottenham Hotspur scored in the 83rd minute but Sol Campbell's late header was disallowed for a push on the goalkeeper, Alexandre Ricardo Pereira.
ENGLAND lost on penalties when Ricardo scored the winning penalty after he had saved a penalty from Darius Vassell.

I was really upset when portugal lost to france in the semi-final. i thought portugal played so much better than france did.
unrelated to football: I was extremely heartbroken when pakistan lost to australia in the 1999 cricket world cup. i totally thought that pakistan would win. After that i just didn't like the pakistan cricket team anymore. it wasn't the fact that they lost. it was the way they lost which was very pissing off.
