keep the car at idle speed running,,if the whole transmission was drained it will probably take about 9 quarts,,maybe more,,just keep checking it,,and don't over fill it what ever you do,,this will mess it up,,it is better to be a quart low,,than a quart over full,after it gets to circulating real good you will be able to get a better reading on it,,just make sure you use a good fluid,,especially after a complete drain,,i own a repair shop,,and do this all the time,,for the first couple of days keep a check on it,,and make sure you don't have any leaks,,i hope this helps.

The torque converter takes around 4 quarts and the transmission takes around 4 quarts.

The torque converter can take about 1/2 quart to 1 quart, when you check your trans fluid always check it with the engine running. The dipstick should be pretty accurate, remember that it will expand a little when hot...

the torque convertor alone can handle up to 9 quarts, 12 quarts is a good start
