don't bother, it is all a con - if you want to buy something a little different for them to keep get in touch with the Royal Mint and get a gift collection of coins for the year that the child was born.

Buying a star means that you give the 'insert name of registry here' some money, then they write your name in a little book next to a number of a star. That is it.! The only place you'll find a record of that registration is in the book on a dusty shelf in 'insert name of registry here'. This name is not recognized by any one, least of all astronomers and others who are in the business of watching the heavens.
Take the money, buy a savings bond, and give it to your 'little star' on their 21st birthday.

I'm sorry but I think that is really naf as you can never actually own it.

Why don't you get something useful instead? Like opening a bank account or something?

Or if you like gifty type things they do some really nice "name" gifts which is basically a picture of the childs name which is a nice thought about gift and personalised for the baby. See http://www.katiepie.co.uk/ for some more details as it's hard to describe!

i went to the star registry web site and they have a basic package that starts at $54 plus shipping and handling for the certificate, star chart and other goodies that come with it. the most expensive package is $139 plus shipping and handling. there is a cataloge that allows you to purchase other things if these prices are too much there is a cute teddy bear that starts around $30 that you can name as well. their site is very user friendly, and worth looking into.

I don't know how much it costs but I know it's really cool. You get to name it, and they send you a certificate that looks really good framed. One of my friends husband bought her one for their anniversary it was so sweet.
