Years ago before there were dvds I watched a vhs movie about that ship. Can't remember if it was a National Geographic or other.

The speculation was that at one time either the land was lower than now, or there was a rise in the water level such that the ship made its way into what they thought was a safe inlet. The water went down and the ship was stranded.

In light of the recent tsunamis it may even be possible the ship was pushed in there like a person on a surfboard and was stranded right there when the wave receded.

It was a long time ago, maybe fifteen years when I saw that so my memory is fuzzy. I think it had markings that suggested it was a Spanish Galleon. Does that sound like your mystery ship??

The only ship in the desert I have heard about is the Navy training ship at, I think, China Lake. I may have the location wrong.

It is a full sized vessel (I don't recall what type) use to train sailors on procedures and drills. I hope some ex navvies come on to tell you more about this.

Please, don't give any credence to the tsunami answers. Any tsunami large enough to have pushed a ship into the desert would have wiped out any coastal settlements and torn up a LOT of vegetation. ANY natural phenomenon big enough to have sent a ship up that high would have been noticed and recorded.

Not a clue, the only ship I heard of was one that was dragged there during the 1800's.
