You see I have a DPM which is a Doctor of Podiatirc Medicine which takes care of the feet and ankle. He is my own personal doctor and I want to become a Podiaitrst but first I want to get my medical Assisting degree and look for a Podiatrist that will train me because I don't want to go stright into Podiatry school and spend all that money and be like "Well this isn't for me" and waste about $45,500. I have got letters from colleges and the Assocation of Podiatry on to shadow a Podiatrist for a day. I want to ask my doctor but I am shy! How can I ask him without coming straight out and saying "Can I shadow you for a day"?

This is your future and there is no time like the present. If you are truly interested in this profession you are going to have to tell him; he may ask you to shadow him. Doctors love it when patients hug their ego

I think your best bet is to be straight forward....the worst thing he can say is no, but chances are he'd be happy to at least let you spend some time in the office....there's a mess of issues with HIPPA and such so I'm not sure how patient confidentiality would come in to play since you aren't actually a student.

But talk to him about it and see what happens...soulds like a great idea to get a good feel for the profession before diving head first into the education pool.
Best of luck to you!

Just tell him you are interested in podiatry and you'd like to shadow him for a day!

Don't beat around the bush, don't stumble in the hedgerow! And if "you're too shy", how are you going to be with patients when you have your OWN office? You can do it! you can DO IT! you can do it...take a deep breath and go see the Doctor!

Just come out and ask him it's not that big of a deal I'm sure he would love it, if not there's plenty of other doctors out there to ask.

it's time not to be so shy if you want something...
