British Broadcast Station That's the only thing I know about those letters together like that.

As mentioned, BBS often stands for Bulletin board system, and was a shortened version of Electronic BBS, and was, before the total dominance of the internet, how we oldtimers used to communicate and dl files, etc.. also some limited turn-based games and messaging.
