I self medicate and it is important to maintain competence otherwise you won't know what you are taking or when you took what.

Self - medication means at least delivering the medication to oneself. So you are responsible for the timing, dosage and observing any side effects.

If you also have to decide what medication to take, such as you do when taking over the counter medication. then you are really independant and need to know what you are taking, the correct dosage, be aware of contra indications and any side effects. You may also need to know if the medication has any special requirements, such as being taken with food, or in the absence of ant-acids. Even, when independently self-medicating, it can be a good idea to get professional help or information, online, on the telephone, or by seeing a health care professional.

.-you can buy the containers which houses 7 independent containers each marked morn, noon, eve, bed, which is self explanetary so you dont overdose or inturn miss out a dose and of course this is for tablets. Painkillers will let you know if you need to take one, but these can be limited to max 8 daily others not so many, you have to write your own notes for liquid intake. so the importance of independent medicating is caution and i hope what i have suggested to you is of help good luck

Self medicating is a way for each individual to control his own fate. It takes away another person hovering over the patient, causing the patient to feel a need for help, losing his ability to control his own well being. That very dependance could cause the recovery process to linger on for a longer than normal time period.

It can be very valuable to be able to give yourself insulin injections for example,or to administer eye drops...however the term "self medicate" isn't a very good term. it congers up drug abuse or alcohol use as a way to deal with problems in Ur life or to treat a undiagnosed illness

you should be smart enough to know what you are taking and not just accept what a doctor tells you because he is a doctor. a lot of times they just listen to you and ton't really do any diagnoses
