The visible tattoos will be noticed as soon as you walk through the door, so that's the first possible negative influence. But it also depends on what the tattoo depicts and the size of it. What's the first person someone thinks of when they look at that image? Gangs and prison, or mother and apple pie. If it's gangs, then your next best hope is that your employer is a reformed ex-felon and has a special sympathy for others who shared his history path.

The criminal record comes next. If you answer the questions correctly on the employment application, then your answer may cause a question to be asked. The worse case scenario is that the subject matter of your prior arrest is very related to the job you're applying for. For example, you were arrested for a theft related offense and you're applying for a position that has to do with handling other people's money. There's really no way to guess how an employer will regard the criminal history. It's a negative, but then some employers are more prone to giving breaks than others.

They go hand in hand. People with tattoos aren't necessarily x-convicts, yet convicts almost always have 'tats'
So, it would be left up to the person(s) or company doing the hiring.

If it's a violent or sexual crime you may never get a job because tattoos can be removed if the job is that important to you.
