When I started to learn to play the guitar, I bought several books, and got absolutely nowhere...then a friend of mine told me to buy a chord book, and learn C, Am, F, and G7...(.lots of songs are written or can be transposed using this key)..;when you ar'e confortable with them, learn the rest of the major chords ....A, B, D, E, G.....then the rest of the minor chords and so on...within a few weeks I could play a few songs, and progressed from there...Best advice???stick with it, don't get dispondent, and you'll get there....Good luck, i'll look forward to your first gig

Learn all the chords you need to know (which would be C major, D major, G major, the A major and minor bar chord forms, and the E major and minor bar chord forms--all inclusive) and practice with them until you can make fluid and solid chord changes without flaw. Then work on your rhythm. Then work on picking through the chords as you play them.
