As soon as you can reach the stool...and press the Keys down. Even very young people have an aptitude for music appreciation and love explore there creativity using sounds. They are more likely to take it up latter on if there introduction to the piano was positive and fun... but they must be the ones who want to do it!.rather than being dragged to the Steinway shouting and kicking at 6 years old..playing lots of boring old exercises. Physically there finger spread is going to be limited at that age but by the time they are 12..and have kept enthusiasm for the instrument..they may become very proficient with a good teacher.

providing you have fingers and the piano any age as soon as possible id love to play the piano!! but i feel im too too old im only 23 hahaha

i started at 7.....but ive seen kids 5 and below playing....it depends really on your family background the family is really musical...start em early
