where is the crankshaft position sensor of '97 chevy malibu?

On the v 6 its in the middle of the block on the back side of the engine . On the 2.4 its right above the oil filter .

Jackhammer is partially correct.
There are two crank sensors on the V6.
One is on the front timing cover the other is in the block on the rear of the engine just above the oil pan.

on the bottom underneath the crankshaft
