I'm expiereinced.... what you do is make a "staircase" of books leading up to a bucket that the hamster cant get out of. put some food and water in there and it will smell it and get trapped in the bucket.

look behind the fridge, they are often there - dont move it though because u could squish him. also check the stove. have some broccoli or other fresh food with u to lure him incase he's there. the bucket idea works. make a trail of food, just a tiny bit, leading up the books and then put broccoli in the bottom of the bucket (no water). he'll fall in and be trapped. DO NOT USE THE STICKY PAPER as suggested earlier.

You can't. He'll find you.
Put the cage on the floor with the door open, and some food leading to the doorway.
It sounds corny, but hey, if he's hungry, he'll come home!

My sister lost her hamster in the house---they found it months later when "what's that smell" was tracked down to the heat vent.

YUCK!

put out food for him in every room and see which pile gets eaten. if you have a dog or cat, the hamster might have been eaten or he might have gotten outside, but they are nocturnal, so you might just not look in the right places. Put bigger animals in kennels until you find him and be sure to look for holes in the wall, as that is how my mom's hamster stayed hidden when she was little. Good luck!

Put the food and and water into a bucket, and set up a flight of stairs with books into the bucket. He won't be able to get out.
