There's plenty of improper advice out there, but we've done our homework and can say this with scientific confidence: It's best to mow when the grass is dry, but not parched. Grass should not be under stress because of too little or too much moisture. This usually means mid- to late-morning, after the dew is gone, or in the evening, after the high heat of midday. When weather and turf are both dry and warm, mowing is going to cause stress — so never mow in the heat of the day.

Don't think mowing time has something to do with the life of your grass lawn. It has rather something to do with you. In the morning, the lawn is moist because of the overnight cooling and morning dew. It is kinda hot during midday until early afternoon. I believe the best time to mow is in the later afternoon when the grass is drier and the weather is not to hot. Watering is the life and blood of your lawn.

In the evening, after the sun has gone down. That gives the lawn time to recover during the cool of the night.

Early, 7-9am, followed with a little bit of water to help from going into shock. It sounds like it may need a lot of water. Dont forget to water the foundation in this heatwave!

Evening is the best when it has cooled down some. Never do it in the heat of the day as it is already stressed.
