I don't know if this name is international, I'm German, but I like Border Collies very much. They are quite loving and intelligent and good looking as well. But I would never want one although this dog seems to be a fashion here in Germany. They suffer, if they have nothing to do. They need work, best is guarding sheep. I know a family with little children and they bought one for much money. The dog began to guard the children. But that was not allowed. So I saw that a dog must feet it surrounding and so I would rather take a Golden Redriver (spelling?) for they are mild and satisfied with good walks outside. I dislike those little barking machines that are of use (seeingly) only for old ladies that spoil them so they begin to feel being the boss and bark at anyone that they feel is in its way. I was bitten many times by such pests. But they are too weak to bite. It's just like a little needle. This kind of dogs I don't like. Maybe they're are good dogs in other hands than spoiling old women. ;)
Hans, Cologne, Germany.
PS.: I grew up with what we call in Germany a "Promenadenmischung". That is a wild mixture of all sorts of dogs. One got such one free in my youth. We called him Teddy due to his hair and the expression of its face.

I've had several different breeds of dogs over the years but I'd have to say the Black Lab that I had was my favorite. He loved everybody and loved swimming and playing fetch. I haven't owned a dog since he died. I just couldn't go through that heartache again.
