Motels are generally a 1 floor/level unit, usually containing the neccessities for overnight lodging.

A Hotel is generally more upscale, muti-floors/levels, and offers many amenities such as restaurant, swimming pool, gift shop, concierge service, etc.

Hotels rates are normally higher than the rates of Motels.

Motel 6 and Motel 8, in my opinion, are a little more advance than typical Motels and they offer some of the qualities of Hotel chains.

Good luck!

There really isn't much of a difference. The property can call themselves whatever they like. Back in the day, it was a clue as to the level of service. Motels give you a bed for the night, hotels have a variety of services available.

Hotels have a hallway on the inside of the building with rooms coming off it. A motel has the doors that go straight outside onto the walkway on the exterior of the building.
