The Dominican Republic, while relatively poor (when compared to the US), is perhaps one of the most advanced countries in all of Latin America, in terms of women rights, democracy, liberalism, globalization, technology, and just about anything else that represents modernism. For example, it's the first Latin American country that had simultaneous premier dates for Hollywood-released blockbuster movies (It's only in the past couple of years that countries like Mexico or Argentina have had theater releases simultaneous with the US, while the Dominican Republic has had them for at least 15-16 years). It's the first latinamerican country where the WWE has had live events, it's also the first latinamerican country where Frank Sinatra held a concert. Heck, the Motorola Star Tac, perhaps the most popular cellphone worldwide in the late 90's early 00's, was available in the DR about a year earlier than in the US.
Anyway, my point is, that the DR is far more advanced that people outside of it might be lead to believe. In this country women have the same if not more rights and opportunities (proportionally speaking) than in the US. You find women in top biz positions everywhere. In fact, the President of the National Council of Private Enterprise (www.conep.org.do) is a woman, Elena Paliza. The head of the National Council of Free Trade Zones is also a woman, Luisa Fernandez. Many females are captains of industry in this country. Not to mention that the President's Cabinet has 4 female Secretaries (the same amount as in the US), and approximately 33% of the congress is female too (more than in the US).

Dominican Republic is appealing, believe me i'm from there yet why do no longer you purely take a cruise which will flow everywhere in the Caribbean? in any case, Dominican each and every person is very friendly and type. The food is remarkable and in case you flow to Punta Cana or Jarabacoa there is purely no longer that lots human beings. The seashores are large and the climate is like heaven. desire that helped.

From what I saw, there is some separation into "pink collar" professions, but no worse than in the US. While I was there, the VP was a woman, and most of the educational heirarchy I worked under was female.

No, in my country we have the same rights than guys and a lot of women have very powerful positions.
Thankfully in the Dom. Rep. we are treated like women, no like toilet papers.
We are not part of the middle east. (thank God)
