this takes the disgusting prize. It was a large colony of scuttling carrion beetle and carrion beetle larvae living in a road kill of a squirrel that I had to clean off my curb. they are insects which specifically eat dead animals
Ok, I was just driving down to the supermarket when a huge (and I mean GINORMOUS) grasshopper landed on my windshield right in front of my face! I was so distracted that I almost had an accident! Now that would give new meaning to the words, "LAST INSECT THAT I ENCOUNTERED".. because I'd be dead :-)

2 brilliant ones recently!!! My son brought them to me. A Preying Mantis and a Colarado Beetle, neither of which I've seen in the wild before. The mantis looked as if it had seen better days unfortunatley. The Colarado beetle looked very still too but when we started taking some photos it stretched it's legs a took off.

Yesterday, my youngest son brought me a present he had found in the front garden...an injured preying mantis..I do have photos to prove it
