Well, you've promised to marry him, and once you are engaged, you are husband and wife in everything except the wedding ceremony and moving in together(1).
I could see breaking the engagement perhaps if you realized that you'd entered it while on the rebound from another relationship and never really loved him in the first place, so that if you went through with it, it would be on false pretenses.
But unless you have a situation like that, you need to stop seeing the other guy and keep your commitment. Otherwise, if God forbid you break up with your fiance and get with the other guy, how will either of you know that you will be faithful to him? You will be setting a very bad precedent.
Bottom line: Have regard for your own integrity and be faithful to your husband. The marriage bond is not meant to be broken(2).

Don't tell him it's because you met someone else. Tell him you feel like you're growing apart, or that you need space--those cliched lines really do work, and are probably true to an extent.
Also, do this in person. Over the phone or online doesn't cut it.
I know you mentioned in another question that he has a bad temper. If you're worried that he'll hurt you, have a friend come with you. I would only suggest this as a last resort, however, since no one wants their heart stomped on in front of other people.

There is no nice way to break up with someone, that is the sad and harsh reality of it.
Sound like honestly is the best answer in this case just don't tell him you are leaving him for someone else.
Sit him down or if you are more comfortable talking over the phone depending on your circumstances you just need to get it over with, the longer you wait the worse it will be for the both of you.
Believe me, cause the man I am with doesn't seem to want to let go and I have told him several times its over, and all it does is get worse.
good luck

This is so hard. But do it soon. I ignored the problems and now I am 27 and getting divorced. Get it over with. Tell him that you value the time you had together, and that you know that the two of you just cannot be happy together. Take the blame...it will actually make things easier for you. Tell him that he deserves someone who will really love him and will value him and that you just do not have that in you at this time.

Geez, Lothario. Lighten up.
Well, you must tell him that your feelings have changed and that you are not in love with him anymore. That he deserves someone who can give him her whole heart.
Now: re the somebody else...
Be very honest and ask yourself if the reason you're in love with this person is because you're frightened of commitment?
I'd say take at least 4 months off from the someone else to make sure he's not rebound guy.
Good luck.

Very gently and firmly. Whatever you do, do not go through with marriage to this man, even if he tries to guilt you into it. I had second thoughts about my marriage, knew I loved another, but still went through with it. Now, many years later, I still love the other and am in an unhappy marriage. A breakup conversation is painful, but a divorce might cost you half of everything, including your spirit.

Well, there is no easy way to do it - so just do it. Don't play games or make up some BS story, just tell him the truth as gently as you can! It will be a cleaner break that way - no lies to cover, no stories to tell, no sneaky sneaky!
And if they fight, then they fight - it's out of your control, but just remember, you're the root of the problem.
Good Luck!
Aloha!

Do not use the friends excuse. Be trutful, and give him all the answers he ask for. But, in the end stick to your guns. And they will not get into a fight if you handle this in a mature way. Do not encourage the fighting.

If you value the life of your "other" guy, I wouldnt tell your fiance about him...But then again, you SHOULD be honest...If somebody gets ****** up cuz they were involved in something they shouldnt have been, then that is their problem. Definitely tell him...the WHOLE truth
