As a designer ;

If you want a Mac, you're options are pretty limited I believe.=)

If you want a PC here's a couple of things I've learned.

1. Get a Pentium M or and AMD processor. Pentium 4's were not meant for laptops. They are inefficient, have noisy fans, can give you bad burns if your not careful, and kill battery life like nothing else.

2. Get a descent graphics card. None of that Intel Extreme integrated nonsense. Make sure it has a good card with dedicated memory. I would recommend at least 64 MB, more if can find a good deal or are willing to pay the money.

3. As always, as much memory as you can afford.

4. If you get a popular brand, you will pay. The big brands like Dell
and Toshiba and such tend to have plenty of marketing material, but are often over priced. Don't give into that 'sale' or 'rebate' sillyness either.Just cause they say it's a good deal doesn't mean it actually is.

Accourdin to all this i ve ended up with a Toshiba and a HP notebooks. Im really happy with em.

best / worse is not the case its more like; The right / Wrong =))
accourdin to the needs

Gateway is the worst. They send me a defective one at first. The second one didn't have the floppy drive like I requested and as soon as my 1 year warranty expired...the notebook started overheating.

I'm getting a Sony Vaio next year when Windows Vista comes out.
