I used to be like you when I grew up, although every once in awhile... I do feel that shy little girl is still there though somewhat "hidden" but very much a part of who I am.
Life works itself in amazing ways and with that comes change. For some of us, change don't always come as a good thing. We like the way things are thank you very much.
Frankly, as you age, you're likely to experience different things/ people, etc that help "shape" you for the person that you become. Most importantly, never feel you need to change & be someone else you're not.

Good things and bad things happen as time goes by. My pal likes to say that different colours of **** hit the fan. Experience helps along the way. Just be glad it made you a confident person. Sadly it can leave a few people left at the sides wishing they could join you.

You get older and more mature. More self confident and also realise that you are at least as good as Mr or Miss Popular.

You also find that being shy you listen to other people rather than talk about yourself - this gives the talker a great ego boost. then hey, you become more popular yourself and you gain confidence!

If a child spends most of his/her life around adults and relating to them they tend to be more relaxed and at ease around adults. Sending kids to public schools to learn "social skills" is like sending infants to daycare to learn calculus 3 from other enfants. Kids can't teach when they don't know and more often than not social skills are the last things taught in a public school.

It's all because of experience. Every person you meet influences you and every experience can change you. Some people change drastically in a short amount of time others don't. Some change in your character, espescially in your teens or 40s if your a female may also be because of the change of different hormonal levels in your body.

Through experience of life and taking on new challenges - we find we can cope ok, the challenges become less daunting and we become more resiliant and confident - some people even get to the stage of thinking they are invincible.

People adjust to their environment and circumstances. You probably found that being shy, quiet and reserved was not working for you and changed your outlook.

Now, you have more experience and know better what your likes and dislikes are, so you adapt to be the best you that you could be.

Through trial and error. With choices we make both conciously and subconciously. Through the people we know and the people we meet. Some lessons are learned and some lessons are lived.
