before venturing out into the DESERT, I left instructions with my friend (the park ranger) on where I would be. I'm going to rest here in the shade and enjoy my water because I see my friend's Jeep heading this way.

I would ration the water, then I would make a condensation trap out of the empty water jug, and a piece of plastic wrap. As an alternate way of getting water i would find a Sharp rock and cut into a cactus. Then, I would take out the watery cactus meant as food and as a water source. I would store this in the other half of the jug, and cover it with plastic wrap. I would travel through the desert everyday until I came to civilization.

The only dessert that I could be physically 500 miles from a road would be in the Pacific Ocean, therefor I would eat fish and navigate my boat East.

Lost in dessert I'd be pretty happy.
Lost in the desert, I'd walk for four and a half hours each night and drink 16 ounces of my water each day.
This should get me out in about 10 days. People can go this long without food, but not water.
It's gross but possible to survive drinking urine and some types of cactus have nourishing liquid in them. I don't know my cacti very well though, so I'd probably avoid that option to prevent poisoning myself.

I would travel at night and bury myself in the day and use the stars to guide me. The desert is full of trash and sooner or later I would come across some plastic sheeting. I would use this to gather water in the morning by spreading it out slightly above the ground and placing a small rock in the center with a container underneath and catch the condensation in the morning to supplement my water if needed

I don't think you could. The human body is amazing, but with out water it woun't survive. That is at lease a 13 day trip. Maybe someone has but they would need major help at the end.

In Australia we learn how to find "bush tucker" from the aboriginies!! But if u can't find any "bush tucker" then the best thing to do is to stay put, and don't walk anywhere, as u need to conserve energy.......and wait till someone finds u!!

I read a story once about a guy that survived a really long time in the desert. He drank his own pee and had to eat bugs and scorpions. It was disgusting.
