No- I think these companies should build the cost of the gas into the transaction instead. It's a misleading practice. Sounds like you probably buy gas from ARCO...
Their gas will eventually ruin your car. As much as I have disdain oil companies, you should consider Shell, or Chevron instead.
Believe it or not- after 5 tanks or so, you will find that you get more gas mileage out of the slightly higher price of these companies, than the discount gas-water you get from ARCO, VALERO or THRIFTY.
Oh- and try this site for some more info:

I always use my check card (sometimes called a debit/credit card) - don't have a debit card. I go into a bank to get a cash advance against this "credit" card (no fees from either my bank or the 'foreign' bank - the one where I don't have an account). I buy gas with the check card, I buy groceries with the check card - never any fees.
I can go to ANY ATM and withdrawal cash and my bank REFUNDS me whatever the 'foreign' bank charges (up to $15/mo.)
Maybe you're with the wrong bank?

I think you need to shop around for a new bank. I know it's common for banks to charge you a fee when you use an ATM, but I've never heard of them charging you for using a debit card. Credit unions usually offer the best rates and lowest fees.

No. But it would cut down on my expenses because I wouldn't depend on it as much. I usually have no cash in my wallet. I use the debit card. The places I use it don't charge a fee. If there is a fee, I don't use it. I'll go to the ATM for cash.

If you're a small business owner, you may think yes. I believe the charge for a customer to use their debit/credit card is around 5-7%? I hear American Express is horrible - 8-9%

I do not think so because of the fact at the end if you find a gas station with cheaper gas you are basically paying the same price that you would have found at another place. If you add the 45 or 35 cents to the price of gallon its not worth it. They should not charge us because its cash just not in paper form.

I don't people should be charged a surcharge for using their own money. It's illogical. Here in Indiana, though, I only get an extra charge when I withdraw money using my debit card, that amount is refunded by my bank, however.
