If you want to look at things "career" wise then Morneau has a long ways to go....This is his 4th season and up until this year his BA was .248...But, that said he's only 25...

For the past 15 years I have kept and update at the end of each season every ML team's "All-Time" team...I do it different than most in that I look at each individual season separate, so a player with one great season could be on the team while a player with 20 good ones might not...And, it's all about which player makes the team better, not about the players "best" season...That said let me give you what I have for the Twins and where I would place Justin Morneau "IF" he were to finish the season with the same BA, OB% and SLG that he had as of 8/6 and you were to give a projection out to 162 games...

Justin Morneau - Projection -
BA-323 OB%-378 SLG-605 R-95 RBI-144 HR-43

Twins - 25 man roster
1B-Mickey Vernon B-L 1946- BA-353 OB%401 SLG-508
1B-Harmon Killebrew B-R 1969- BA-276 OB%-427 SLG-584

Twins - 40 man roster
1B-Kent Hrbek B-L 1988- BA-312 OB%-387 SLG-520

Close but no cigar
1B-Rich Reese B-L 1969 BA-322 OB%-365 SLG-513

One thing you need to keep in mind is, this is done as a computer simulation so it is the best of the best playing against the best and with the pitching being so incredible, it really affects the hitters numbers.....

Vernon is on the 25 man because he's a better 2 spot hitter against right handed pitching than Hrbek...But if Morneau were to finish up with the projection numbers...I would replace Vernon on the 25 man with Morneau and move Lyman Bostock into the 2 spot...Not a big drop off in the 2 spot but an upgrade in the 4, I could move Tony Oliva to 6 and leave Killebrew(DH) in the 5th spot...

Yes it's fun....What the heck I love baseball...

So the answer for this one year, is yes Morneau would be better than Hrbek...

Kent Hrbek. He had better numbers statistically and he has something Morneau doesn't: World Series championships (2, I believe). Until Morneau can get a World Series ring, I'm going with Hrbek

Morneau has a long way to go but if he stay healthy and continues on a normal growth curve, he will probably be better than Hrbek when his entire carerr is finished.
