My girlfriend loves dancing and likes going to clubs... But I don't dance... Don't get me wrong, I love the music and I'm fine with the idea of dancing, I just don't know how to dance... I really want to learn though, because she really means alot to me and I know going dancing together would mean alot to her. She tells me I have rhythm, and that I can control my body, which I am fairly confident with, the thing is I don't know how to move my body, which way to move it, what to do... x.x
People tell me to watch Hitch ^^ Which I've now seen, I need that kind of lesson but extended...
We go to clubs in the South of France, playing music like David Ghetta, Bob Sinclar, Martin Solveig, basically a catchy tune with alot of bass, not RnB and not Techno, kind of an intermediate.
Anybody know any websites that have tutorials or lessons for the basic moves? Any personnal advice? I just want to learn the basics, then I'll ask my girlfriend for help :)
Thanks all,
Bobly, 17, France

What I'm asking for but seemed to not have managed to communicate is what are some key moves that can be done? Any of you seen the movie Hitch? Any more advice like Will Smith gives what's-his-name?

my opinion:

try taking salsa lessons to start with maybe, it will help to learn to move your body to the music. once you learn to do that, free-styling gets much easier and spontaneous.

try looking at this website:

Try taking a dance lesson. Your school would probably have something like after-hours program. I mean a beginner lesson in any of the Latin American dances. It helps to be in a group of people all trying to learn. You will learn to move to music. You don't feel bad copying the teacher (unlike in the clubs, you migh feel uncomfortable copying someone, but doing a lousy job at it)You will be able to easily modify the moves into club dancing. You can approach the same teacher (if you like their teaching) and ask for an individual lesson.

What you have is a mental block.

Practice with the music alone in your room, or with her in a private area. Don't be self-conscious about it... just let your body move the way it wants to. Put your hands in the air or on her and just move.

It's easy. You have to "let go" in the same way a person about to be hypnotized does... Let your body feel the music and just allow your body to move to it. Don't try to hard, but don't resist either. Good luck!

Just do it. Watch how others do it and mimick what they do. Mix it up and create your own moves. The best is to just do it and take it from there.

They say... "Dance like nobody is watching you"

Just move w/ the music, make your woman look good, she'll appreciate it.
