I'm on a course in the states next week and I'm from London.

P.S. I'm a bloke and not into wearing dresses and that. (not at work anyway)

Backless chaps, some nice cuban heels, a sheriff's waistcoat (with well shined badge) and a stetson.... it worked for me.

For men, business casual means a pair of nice pants, maybe khakis and a shirt, a short sleeved shirt is okay as would be a golf shirt. Tie and jacket is not business casual.

If you're going to be in a course/hotel, wearing a jacket might keep you from being chilled and would be okay.

I'm in South Carolina.

Depends what company are you working for.
Generally Business Casual means Khaki pants, Polo shirt, Dress shirt and dress pant with no tie and a coat. If you are a engineer blue jeans are exceptable. Observe what people at your work wear and it is ok to ask your supervisor or manager "What is business casual for "the Company name"?
In business school we are thought "You can always dress down but you can't always dress up"
Meaning, let's say you are at the office and all of a sudden your boss tells you to meet up with a client if you are wearing a short, jeans, t-shirt e.t.c it will take time to dress up. If you are dressed up you can always take off your tie, coat, and roll up the sleeves e.t.c.
good luck

Slacks or pressed khaki pants and a button-down shirt. I would pack some ties, but only wear one if the other participants are (I don't think you will need them). You will not need a jacket - no one in the U.S. is wearing jackets right now - it is pretty hot almost everywhere.

Avoid jeans and probably any type of cargo pants that don't hold a crease.
