Adaware, spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, and we shouldnt forget yahoo antispy toolbar download. The absolute best protection comes from YOU! The quicker you learn about free download sites, the better you will be prepared! Music sites such as limewire and bearshare are what are known as peer to peer file sharing programs. The downloads you get arent from the website, they come from other users computers. Do you trust people you dont know? How infested are their systems? Do they even realize that they are infested? Most of them dont! Porn sites, online game sites, gambling sites etc are all FILLED with adware and spyware. Users seem to have a false sense of security when using spyware detection programs. Keep in mind no one particular program detects it all! Some adware can simply not be removed once it has installed itself short of checking pages and pages of registry files and deleting unwanted entries.

AVG Anti-Virus is good (and has a free version that I've been using for years). You can get it at www.grisoft.com. The best anti-spyware program is Spybot Search & Destroy (I don't know the website, but Google can find it). I use the Windows XP firewall, which seems to work fine (SP-2 version). Most important, be sure to disable ActiveX controls and file downloads on your web browser (except for trusted sites), and avoid instant messaging and chat rooms (lots of viruses and malware get passed around those).

The person that said Anti SpyyWhere otherwise known as AdWhere is a ROUGE ANTISPYWARE PROGRAM!! IT GIVES U ADWARE INSTEAD OF GETTING RID OF IT!!! DONT DOWNLOAD IT!

Hi, free? i only hear Norton has a 90 days of trial version. you can try it.
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar, which can disable the virus, becasue the virus can only run on IE.
firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and spywareware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

zone alarm firewall, lavasoft ad-aware anti-spyware, i don't know about virus scan though.. i use norton.
