Nope, unless he is mating with her he doesn't want any company. Neither does she. Even after mating is done, they want to be left alone. Seperate them immediately.
There is no way to train them out of this. They are solitary animals and don't want roomates.
If he is fat stop feeding him so much. Once a day is fine. I also skip a day once a week.

EDIT
If the female is fat she is gonna lay eggs. If you want babies, let them stay together for another day. The daddy will take care of the eggs and babies so take out the female when she lays them.
Go to the website. they have lots of info about breeding and raising babies.

You can situation them to take meals out of your hand. Try feeding them simplest whilst you first flip at the gentle. They'll come to be each and every lively within the morning. They'll comply with palms. Something the "running shoes" round right here do (that is for combating them, which I do not condone, however the coaching is neat to look) is to make use of a small sitck, like a chop stick and paint the tip pink or blue with non-poisonous water evidence paint. (bait retail outlets have a few for jigs) after which lightly tease your fish with it. He'll be taught to flare and show on the stick, following it across the tank.. A couple of minutes an afternoon is well for his or her conditioning. Good good fortune-

your beta should not have a problem with a female beta at all. and for it being fat,,,,don't over feed. i have a burgundy male beta and its in the tank with 6 female guppies,,3 black neons,,4 platties,,2 small catfish and a 6- inch sucker fish. they all get along perfectly otherwises i'd not have them all in there together.your beta will only fight another male beta........
