yes it gets damp down there, it is like a sauna when I don't shut the door. I live in an apartment so there is no way to make an exteranl vent

You can pick up the proper vent hose at any hardware store for a pretty small amount. You can also get a vent cap that is made to release the warm air into the house or outside through the use of an internal flap--they also have a screen that traps the extra lint before it blows into your home. It's not really hard to install a vent yourself, but if you're in doubt at all, get a professional to do the job. I used the old pair of pantyhose for quite a while--just make sure you clean them out/change them regularly! Also make sure you clean out the lint trap in the dryer EVERY time you use it! Dryer fires are nasty! Only other suggestion I can make is hang your clothes outside or inside on a clothesline to dry-it's free!

Is there a window where you can run the dryer vent to the outside?
You could cut a piece of wood to mount the dryer vent kit in, then slide the window down on to the wood, then you would have no lint or humidity in the apartment.
Hope it helps.

The lint is not the only problem. Are your walls getting wet when you run the dryer? All that moisture in your clothes needs to go somewhere.

Go to the hardware store. They make this "lint trap" that uses water you need to clean it like every four or five cycles it should cost about 15 to 20 dollars (including the hose) just explain your problem to the hardware guys they will know were to find it (it will probably be near the plumbing stuff) I know Home Depot sells them because that is where I got mine last year.

Pantyhose will work for a while but as the accumulation gathers in the pantyhose, it gets harder for the dryer to blow through and will cause your dryer to work harder and longer.

The extra humidity will cause the wood to rot quicker and mold & mildew can develop.
