Does the privatisation of news, and subsequent control of it destroy any hopes of objectivity and thus weaken one of the most important estates of democratic success? Is controlled news merely a way of sending out pre-packadged thoughts and opinions, merely lights and wires in a box emitting static noise to distract people from the truth?

All of the news outlets are privatly owned and should stay that way. Gov't control will only bring about a lopsided veiw of news and denial of free speech. We are moving towards that now when our gov't is incarcerating journalists who don't reveal sources. I trust that journalists will keep secrets when necessary even if I don't agree with them. It is OUR RIGHT TO HAVE A FREE PRESS. I warth all of the outlets several times during the week in order to get a broader view .

It is privatized. Multiple channels are better than one govenment controlled channel. And most news I watch or listen to reports what happened, it could have some bias leaving things out. Anyway, I think the news is privatized, watch multiple channels or read Google News to see several opinions.

It is privatized.

It is that privatization which has protected its integrity.

While all news organization (that are private) go through phases of strong owner control of news content, that will pass because the public will simply quit buying it. Government controlled (non-private) news organization simply continue to air government approved stories.
