I've actually had a friend to audition for people she heard about on the radio and she got a call back but they usually asked for a whole lotta money

I doubt that casting calls and auditions are announced on the radio. If you listen to your local radio then you'll probably hear some for local plays or some community thing. But nationally, I don't think you'll hear anything for a casting call anytime soon.

They wouldn't announce auditions over the radio. What you should be looking for if you want to get jobs like that is something called "voice over". Those are for advertisments and things like that, which only use voice talents. Usually actors are hired though commercial agencies.

Right after the farm report.

You have to get up really early to catch the auditions on the radio.

Ever wonder why you see so many farmers at auditions? It's because they get up early to hear the farm report... they learn about the auditions coming up, and say "Screw it... I don't feel like driving a tractor today... think I'll go down to that disney audition and see if I can get to hang out with Mily Cyrus and stuff"
