Well, then, dw, if it's not the Bible ye want, then it's not the Bible ye shall have!
Read Tom Robbins, but not the one about the guys from Viet Nam or "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues." Those two suck. Get the one where they find the body of Christ and want to expose the Vatican. It's a comedy and definitely not the Bible. I wish I could remember the name of it, but I survived the 70s with some minor cellular casualties. Just read the back jackets and ye shall find, or ye shall find another good one.
Failing you there, I recommend Kurt Vonnegut, all his books, and, once again, definitely not the Bible. My favourites are "Hocus Pocus," "Breakfast of Champions," and "Slapstick." Hocus Pocus is especially funny, makes fun of current gov't, religion, poofy stuffed-shirts, george bush's Yale, republicans, plantation owners, and all the usual Boogey Men and taboos.
There's another good author named Kinky Friedman, but he may be a little rough around the edges for a teen, which almost guarantees you'll check him out.
I recommend these because I'm the devil, MWOOoo-Ha! Ha!Ha!HA! (Not really, quite the opposite.) But I enjoy a little good-spirited knocking down of sacred cows from time to time and all I really had to work with here is "not the bible." I have a feeling you will not be disappointed. I wasn't when someone did the same for me. I've read these books countless times. You can't help but feel much, much better.

There's a book called Big Mouth and Ugly Girl that you might like. I'm 18, and it was very age appropriate. It's about a high school girl and boy. In the beginning they don't know each other and they are both going through some pretty trying things. They both feel like outcasts, and the book is written form both of their perspectives. I forgot who the author is, but you can look up the title. Also, I love reading this series of books called Dear Dumb Diary. There are several different ones, all focusing on the same main character. You get to read all the entries in her diary, and she goes through an array of different problems. I find them very humorous and imaginative. The author is a man which I found really surprising. His name is Jim Benton.Let me add: there is also a book called Goat you might want to read. It is a true story, but it may be a little intense for you. It deals with college fraternities and how hazing can become very dangerous. Happy reading!!

I don't know what you're reading level is, but I know a few teens who really liked Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. That's about a girl who is ostracized because she called the cops after being the victim of date rape.
Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause. That's a fun vampire story. The author was still a teen when she wrote it.
If you're looking for something more substantial, try Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.
Happy reading!

Books by V.C. Andrews, Kurt Vonnegutt, Robert Cormier are good places to begin. They are not the run-of-the-mill teenage comes of age books. These have really challenging characters. I love to read these.
