to use a web cam you need the drivers. i don't know what company made your web cam, but you'll need to go to that web site and install the drivers. then you can plug in the web cam.

Well if you know the name of the company e.g. "logitec" then go to a search site and type that in, you'll find the webcam's company website through that. then go to a tab called "support" or "drivers" and you should be able to search for your webcam's make and product type eg "Logotec A657" etc. then make sure you choose the right windows and language and voila!

Plug it in, download the driver from the Internet, go to the control panel, click "Add new hardware", when it asks for the driver, if it doesn't appear, click "have disc", and browse for the driver application you just installed. That should do it. Just follow the rest of the wizard and good luck.

IF you've got "WINDOWS XP", it should automatically detect it when you plug it into the USB port, and try to find a suitable driver for it..... if not, look up the manufacturer's website & it should have the drivers to download.
