Needlecrafts seem to get popular in spurts. For many years felting was a "lost" art and then Carol Duval had someone on her show that did a felted object. It became so popular that she had several shows devoted to felting. All it takes is for the younger crowd to see something that is "cool" and the craft takes off again.
Tatting is becoming popular again. Knitting, crocheting, quilting and needlepoint have also become fashionable once again. I'm even seeing more hairpin lace patterns on the market.
I don't really think any of the needlecrafts ever become truly lost. They may disappear for a time but then someone will see a pattern they like and tries it. Then their friends want to try. etc...etc...

Tatting and crocheting lace, doilies and table clothes.
I am 55 and try to teach my granddaughters and nieces, but just like their mothers they are not interested. Yes they are a lost art.
