I used to think that if I ate my food REALLY quickly, it would go through my system just as fast - so fast in fact, that it wouldnt have time to put weight on me.
Sadly, after studying biology, I realised that the body is designed to extract EVERY LAST CALORIE with its convoluted intestine with cells that have villi and microvilli.

In saying that there are some foodstuffs that are pretty resistant to digestion and come out pretty much the same way as they went in - fibre is cellulose and no animal can digest that stuff (cows dont either - they use bacteria which have the necessary enzymes); tomato seeds and sweetcorn kernals are commonly known. Many sewerage plants have tomato plants growing alongside due to this!

Certain diseases of the GI Tract can cause the intestine to excrete massive amounts of fluid, and any food will be flushed out the bowel, or vomitted out the mouth. In this sense food would go straight through as the normal processes are stopped and you would derive no nutrients from the food rushing through the tract.

Well, sorta... if you ate something that was REALLY high in fiber or had no nutritional value whatsoever, it would probably pass through mostly unchanged -- we're assuming here that it's something that didn't dissolve in your stomach acid along the way, obviously. Generally, though, even the worst junk foods or the most fibrous healthy stuff still has some component that is digestible, so it will still break up in your digestive tract, but just won't break down to the point where you body will absorb all of it. Let's not forget that (if we really want to speak of waste products today...) about 95% of what you excrete is actually dead bacterial cells, the e. coli that line your gastrointestinal walls and help you digest your food. As inefficient as we are at processing and absorbing what we eat, we still manage to take up a goodly portion of it, so that what comes out at the end bears little resemblance to what went in (thank goodness).

That being said, if you overwhelm your body with certain things -- like really greasy food, or too much dairy for the lactose intolerant -- your body might not be able to produce enough enzymes or bile to break them down sufficiently for you to digest them completely before they pass through, and they'll go through much faster than normal... what my old college roommates used to refer to as "the burrito bomb."

simply put ....you can test how fast your own system is by eating loads of sweetcorn and seeing it arrive unchanged in the pan....but the only way food can go straight through is if you get an infection which renders the bowel useless at deriving nutrients and digesting therefore subsequent diarrhoea.....but usually it would take a day to go through some people longer....and to the person that says your small intestine is a mile long needs to perhaps read a little biology your entire bowel is around 9-14 ft some abit less others a bit more....

Actually is takes 24 hrs for food to digest. Maybe some types but I doubt they go straight through you. Some will have a reaction to your bowels to make it feel like it went straight through you, when in fact it was the food you ate yesterday.

Yes, there are substances that the acids and eynzmes in your body cannot break down, the most common being things with cellulose like corn. If you take a kernel of corn (or better yet, a kernel of uncooked pop corn) and eat it, it will pass straight through because your body lacks the ability to digest its outer wall.

there is probable not something more effective they could do for you once you've talked to medical doctors and hospice about it. maximum cancers should be like this and also you purely could conflict through with it. the purely element i'll imagine of is to ask them no matter if you ought to take medicine used for constipation such as Immodium to help food supply up going properly by you. Liquid supplementations are very sturdy nutritionally talking, yet what sturdy are they in case you are able to't use the food if each and everything basically is going too quickly by your gadget to absorb the mandatory food. you want to resign all the diarrhea to make issues more effective constructive. because it appear like your situation is terminal, i do not see why they could not attempt to resign all the bathroom visits with medicine except it would not help you and they comprehend it. a minimum of ask them about it.

There are certain meals I eat that seem to effect my stomach almost immediately and I just HAVE to go to the toilet. However, the poo is already in my small intestine waiting to come out, so I don't think its the food, just its effect on my digestive system......
