Every day there are things that YOU can do to minimize how much money you spend on fuel.
Instead of complaining about fuel prices & seeking the 'magic wand' to make the price per gallon less, lets see how many ideas (big & little ) WE can come up with to reduce OUR out of pocket costs.
I have already REDUCED the amount of money I spend on fuel by more than half , even though I pay more per gallon at the pump.
It's not all that hard to do!
Here's a few ideas to get you started:
I do 95% of my shopping either on the way to or from work.
I also often call my neighbor before leaving work to see if there's anything she needs at the store that I can pick-up for her.
I used to go out for the local Sunday paper. Now I have it delivered.
I save trips to the bank, with automatic payroll deposit & local ATM
I drive a Hybrid
I've altered my driving habits & routes to conserve
These are just a few ideas, that, when combined with others, can save YOU $
Whats UR IDEA?

I walk to the video store to get or return my movies. It is a mile. that is nothing!
Since I don't put our mail on the house box anymore, we walk to the post office together, when it cools down. It is a nice time for us to visit.
I ride my bicycle to the gym.
I combine many trips to different stores, no more going here, then there, then back over here.
I do not stomp on the gas anymore or go over 70 on the highway.

1. Instead of the normal 28PSI tire pressure - add a little bit up to 32PSI - it may get a bit bumpy but you'll have a better fuel mileage out of this trick... This is because a stiffer wheel will roll much longer than a softer or flatter one.
2. Have you computer Box adjusted to accomodate a leaner fuel mixture. If you have Carburetors - have a mechanic make the fuel mixture to accomodate more air than gasoline (This is called Lean mixture)... This will reduce the life of your spark plugs - but they're much cheaper than your gasoline on the long run. But to prevent spark plug fouling or life shortage - Treat your engine with NewOil - Treat your plugs and ignition cables as well in order to protect them from the hotter ignition caused by a lean mixture setting. If there is no NewOil Additive available... Just use Castrol GTX Oil for your motor oil to protect your engine.
3. Place a block of wood about 1" or so under your accelerator pedal... This will prevent your right foot from depressing the gas pedal too much - Thus - more fuel is saved by less engine revving.
4. Use only a low octane rated fuel... This is s slow burning fuel so it means - it will evaporate more slower than the higher octane ones. And that also means that you can get more mileage out of slow burning fuels than fast burning ones - unless you value speed and performance like into racing.
5. Only put fuel in the early morning... When the earth or ground is much colder.
6. Try not to use the Aircondition too much if you have one installed.
7. Use lower wattage lights for your headlights... This will make the alternator much lighter to turn - therefore lesser load for your engine.
8. Replace the jetting of your carburetor to smaller ones. (not applicable for EFi's)
9. If you can change your car - try to get a GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION Engined Car. Or a Direct Diesel Engined Car. - This is the last evolution of the internal combustion engine. Or buy a Hybrid like the Toyota Prius.

I ride my bike as much as possible and dont drive as much when I have to use my truck.
I also keep the outside of the vehicles clean and keep up with the oil changes and filters.
These things help reduce drag from air and help the engine run at maximum perfomance.
I also use a octane booster that comes in a bottle so I do not have to pay for premium fuels.

Well, to start, is proper tire pressure, take that junk out of the trunk, a good tuneup, clean air filter, accelerate normal, instead of drag racing. Don't speed. When at a stop light, put the vehicle in neutral(remember to put back in drive before stepping on the gas).

I truly believe that you have hit the nail on the head. You can do a lot of shopping before or after work. That saves extra trips to the stores. I use ATM all the time.
Just by reading your question, I feel you have pretty much answered it yourself. Thanks for the tips.
