On my Chevy Lumina 1995 have 3 brake lights, one in the middle and two side, my problem is the brake lights on the sides don't come on even when I turn on the lights at night. We done everything now what, only thing I can think of maybe is the ground wire but where is at???

I don't know for certain but I'll tell you how to check whats the car made to do. The center light only lights when you brake. If you can get at the rear light sockets, then pull out each one, one at a time. Look into the bulb socket. It should have one or two contacts inside. Look at the bulb. It will have only one or two contacts on the base. They have to match. Turn on your parking lights. Make sure they work. Leave them on and turn on the four ways. You should see low and high. Your brake light does not have to work with these. The brake lights could work by thenselves. I'll bet you have the wrong bulbs in at least two sockets. If this doesn't work, you'll need a mechanic. There shouldn't be a ground wire , the cars chassis is ground. It's either a fuse or a hot wire. If you've already ruled out a fuse problem, have some body do a continuity check from the brake light switch to one of the affected light sockets.

You now have to track the short or break in the wiring. Each tail light grounds directly to the body or chasis. These wires will be found going from the light to the term. piont back by the lights themselves. since they both dont work when you push the pedal you have a break or short in the hot wire going from the pedal to the lights.
put in a new fuse, if it blows when you push the pedal then it's a direct short. replace that lead wire.
If it's not the fuse then it's a break in the wire. the first place to check is where the wire splits to go to the two lights. chasis wiring harness toward rear of car. If it's not broken there then it's somewhere between there and the pedal switch. replace that lead wire.

if it were a ground problem both lights wound not be out! You have a blown fuse some where or the hot wire to the tail lights is cut or broken, the only way you can find it is start at the light switch and trace the wire every inch of the way back to the tail lights. You may be FORCED to seek help from a qualified automotive wiring specialist!

Ok so your running lights and brake lights do not work! Ground wiring is not the cause unless your car has been rear-ended. There is a light control module located under the dash have the diode in the module check that is usually the problem with that year and make of car!

the ground wire is going to be in the trunk, behind the panel, next to the trunk latch, the one welded to the body, it will be a comon ground for several things. this is where gm commonly put grounds in the trunk. if not is should be somewhere on the rear panel or by the left fenderwell, the third brakelight is grounded right below where it mounts most of the time

Check and see if it has tail lamp connector plates. It would be the bar you have top unbolt to get to the light bulbs them self. Also the headlight switch might be causing your problem if it is tied in to the system

"AGAIN"!!!!! ESPECIALLY IF U HAVE A TILT STEERING COLUMN or wheel , & if the rag joint is bad or steering coupler is worn out U can have light problems also !!!!!!"AGAIN"
