Our local meteorologist in Oklahoma City was pondering the possibility that tornado alley is migrating east to the midwest (places like Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky). They have had it bad the last couple of years, and we have had rather disappointing (if you're a weather enthusiast) storm seasons here in Oklahoma those two years. What is the possibility that tornado alley could really be moving, or is it more likely that this is just a natural cycle?

Tornado alley is simply referring to where the gulf stream (on the more eastern side of the country) swirls with the cool northern canadian stream (from eastern ish), and then creates tornadoes in between (the alley). Since the gulf isn't exactly moving anytime soon, nor is canada, Tornado alley can and will fluctuate where it occurs, and is a natural cycle due to the streams shifting. But it's not going to start dancing around wildly, since it's still confined by the natural geography of the country.

It could be either. It is common knowledge that the weather patterns are changing. Some think that the weather is swinging within it's normal cycle. I do not.
The trend of temperature is relentlessly upward. CO2
levels are very high and rising. Polar ice, which reflects light and heat, is being replaced by energy absorbant water. Torrential rains have plagued California and other states, with resultant flooding. Texas and Oklahoma, are I believe, dryer. This means a decrease in storms. The Jet Stream is a major determinant of weather in North America. If it tends to push stormy weather more easterly than before, it may bump up against mountainous terrane
and result in more atmospheric instability. This may be what we are seeing.

Did you know we have more tornadoes per sq mile than you guys do in the US here in the UK?
Thankfully they are not nearly as big as yours but they are still extremely destructive.

The M4 Corridor motorway that runs East to West is one of the favourite spots also the Birmingham area for some strange reason but they do happen just about anywhere in the UK.
