There are several facts on the ground that have to be recognized on both sides before a state of war ceases to exit between Israel Palestinian people.
Israel has to be recognized and accepted by the Governments in the Middle East. End of serious discussion on this point.
A Palestinian State must be agreed upon along original national boundaries that existed before the occupation was started on the West Bank.
Each of the Palestinian major issues with Israel must be addressed and decided. And, if the issues can not be resolved by an agreement between the two parties, then the issues that remain undecided must be decided by an impartial entity agreed upon by both parties, maybe an NGO that has a working model of communities living and cooperating together.
The United Nations or the World Court would be an appropriate forum for the meetings and decisions to take place.
Both sides have to agree upon a cease fire and cease rearming before the negotiations begin.
These are huge points of agreement, but they are each necessary to create a period of time when hostilities will end.

Has a lasting peace ever been achieved through a cease fire? I don't know all the world's history but I can't site a case. Sadly, I think only victory and defeat can really produce a lasting peace.
BTW, the civilized wars the US tries to engage in will not do it either. A defeat must be thorough, complete, and without any concern for the enemy until a position or unconditional surrender is adopted.

Quoting George bush. When we talk about war, we are really talking about peace
and for those who say kill all the Arabs, why do you think it is OK, but if someone says kill all the Jews, it is devastating. Could it be social blindness, bigotry, brainwashing and stupidity?

No, the violence must stop worldwide or we are all doomed.
Right now it is a "who started it" problem and not a "how do
we resolve this" kind of problem. There must be more EDUCATION, TOLERENCE, EMPATHY and UNDERSTANDING. Then everyone
would perhaps be on the same page. I don't think that I will live to
see that happen........sad.
