do you think that I am ruined by my mistakes or by envy and hatred of others?

People are often their own worst stumbling block on the road of life. Blaming others for your own mistakes is another way that people sabotage yourself. In the end, you are the only one that you must answer to. You are the only one that you can blame for failure. Others will try to disrupt your progress, but it is your fault for allowing them to succeed. Practice looking on your fellow humans with warmth, affection, and acceptance. If you can control your emotions enough to be loving and happy, you have found a path to true happiness. Happiness comes from within. Envy and hate prevent people from being happy.

I don't think you are ruined. You might be in a slump right now, but it's not all finished. Give yourself a break. If you believe in karma, you can balance it by your good deeds and thoughts. I'm not sure how it works, since the old saying "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions" is often true. It seems that some people hate you more or destroy themselves more when you help them. It has nothing to do with jealousy, unless they try to keep you to themselves. Perhaps the positive effect you are having on that person is something you don't see or something that happens later on. Maybe you are just balancing your karma debt. There are a few people now I know never to try to help, because they can't improve their lives with my help. They self-destruct when I help them. So, clearly they need to help themselves in every instance.
Maybe I'm sick in the head or something, but I don't really envy anyone else. I might wish I had a nicer home, or wish I could go on vacation with another married couple, as a lot of people seem to do. So far, my husband and I haven't found couples we both like a lot, though we often agree on individual people. So, if I am jealous of that, I don't think I am envious of something that is real.

Hatred is another matter. I am still trying to decide if I actually hate my husband's ex-wife. I saved her life once (suicide attempt with pills and booze), but she still is really horrible a good part of the time, and we are still linked through my stepson. Hatred eats away at you, so for your own health and spiritual development it is important to try to find a way to forgive that person and release the hatred. I'm trying. How about you?

every action has a reaction. So think before you speak or react. Depends how bad of the reactions you have gotten. Most situations with people can be fixed if you just talk honestly and work things out with them. Admit your mistakes it makes you the better person.

It is more likely by your mistakes. It is hard for anyone who envys you or hates you to do you lasting harm. They can of course do miserable things to you but only your mistakes will be held against you.
