They served in the military.

In the house, 15.2% of the Republicans & 9% of the Democrats served.
In the Senate, 17% of the Republicans & 12% of the Democrats served.
In the Full Congress, 15.5% of the Republicans & 9.6% of the Democrats served.

In the house, 2.8% of the Republicans & 1.6% of the Democrats served in Vietnam.
In the Senate, 2% of the Republicans & 2% of the Democrats servedin Vietnam.
In the Full Congress, 2.6% of the Republicans & 1.7% of the Democrats served in Vietnam.

So while there are patriots & cowards on both sides, it looks like there might be a few more draft-dodgers on the left.

According to the red faction of America they could never have been vets because they think only Conservatives can fight wars proper! Funny, when I was a kid Reds were commies!
